Say hello to the Seven Dirty Words as described by George Carlin. These words were, believe it or not, even the focus of a Supreme Court case. Carlin died on June 22 at the age of 71, and he will be missed.
When I was a kid growing up in the 1980’s, I remember seeing a few of George Carlin’s specials on HBO. Mind you, I didn’t understand a lot of what I was hearing, but I did understand quite a bit, and the audience were laughing their asses off, which was always a good sign.
Over the years, George Carlin did many things. He acted in movies such as Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Wrote books with titles like Napalm and Silly Putty, and When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?. And above all else, he continued to do comedy routines year after year.
One of my friends, upon hearing of Carlin’s death, said, “Damnit! He was supposed to live forever!”, and you know, it does feel that way, really. But sadly, that’s not the case. One of the great comics has died, and the world is less without him.
