You compared this to putting George III on our coins. I have to wonder if they had put Sanford Dole on their quarter would you be outraged that a foreign world leader was on the coin? For those not in the know he was the President of the Republic of Hawaii after the overthrow of the monarchy. By the way whether you like or not the English monarchy had a profound and lasting effect on our nation. Charlotte NC is named for Queen Charlotte. She was the wife of George III too. Many place names in our country are taken from the monarchy. There are also numerous place names in New Jersey containing Franklin. They are not named for Ben Franklin, but his son Royal Governor William Franklin, loyalist to the crown. Lastly Virginia was named after Queen Elizabeth I. Not only does their quarter "shockingly" contain the name VIRGINIA, but Jamestown as well. Named for her successor King James I.

>the CSA we were at war with for their entire existence, and we stopped being at war with the UK after about 1815.

But the Confederate states are American states...even if they wanted to secede. The Confederate States Of America was never a foreign country...England is.

Mississippi incorporates the Confederate flag in their state flag for the same reason Hawaii incorporates the Union Jack in theirs...as a symbol of the state's history.

As you know, I don't even live in America. And I don't really care if Mississippi removes the C.S.A. flag from their state's flag design (like Georgia recently did)...or if Hawaii changes their flag.

Ha! I’d completely forgotten that part of Hawaii’s flag. Thanks for the reminder. What I said about the Confederate flag doesn’t quite apply to the Hawaiian flag, though, since the CSA we were at war with for their entire existence, and we stopped being at war with the UK after about 1815.

There's a statue of that king in Hawaii, as well.
I don't think it's a big deal for his image to be on US currency. That quarter is meant to represent Hawaii's culture and history...which, I'm sure, King Kamehameha must have been a big part.

On this post, you have a link to another post about the Confederate flag...in which you mention that state flags shouldn't incorporate the Dixie flag (there's only one state left that does since Georgia changed their flag a few years ago. That's Mississippi (where I was born)).

But you didn't mention that Hawaii's flag has the Union Jack of the U.K. in the upper-left corner.
