Ah, good ole religion. As many people have pointed out, it’s given the world great music, great architecture, wonderful philosophies giving value to individual life, and brought a sense of order to the chaos of our lives.
Oh, and not incidentally it’s responsible for the death of a thirteen-year-old girl in Somalia.
Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow was gang-raped by three men. So what do you do in a case like that, if you’re part of the local authority? Do you round up the men, give them a fair trail and drop them into prison for several years? No. Apparently what you do is sentence the girl for a crime.
Adultery.
Then you give her the death sentence.
Then you carry it out in a public stadium where the poor kid is stoned to death.
This is an absolutely barbaric practice and the sort of thing that could only come from a religious basis. Religion that’s peaceful is bad enough, because it still continues to spread ignorance. But religion like this? This is flat-out evil and needs to be stomped into the ground.
Somalia is an incredibly fucked-up nation to begin with. It doesn’t need crap like this to make it worse. I really, really hope people there learn a lesson from this, but I have a feeling the only less they’ll learn is, “Oh, hey, this worked well. Let’s do it some more!”
