So I was browsing around Wikipedia today and found an article all about Jewish atheists. Need I point out the stupidity in that? I guess I do, since the article exists.
Jewish atheism is practiced by atheists who are ethnically Jewish and members of the Jewish people.
No, bullshit. Being Jewish is being a member of a religion. It is not an ethnic group. People whose ancestors were extensively Jewish might be Semitic (from which we get the term “anti-Semitism”), a group which includes Arabs, but they aren’t ethnically Jewish.
This is like saying, “I’m a Christian atheist!” From Wikipedia’s standards (and the delusional standards held by many Jews, it would seem), this would be valid, right? I mean, my family is Christian as were my ancestors as far back as we can trace them, and I was baptized and confirmed, so by this logic aren’t I a Christian atheist?
This is sheer stupidity. I know there’s lots of Jewish people out there who like to talk about the Jewish race and the like but those people are what we call “wrong”. There may be a lot of physical characteristics shared by Jewish people from certain ethnic groups, but being Jewish is a religious choice, not an ethnic identity.
