(sorry, couldn’t resist)
So apparently there’s some violence happening in Seattle right now. To any of my friends and family up there reading this, do be careful. It’s tied into May Day, which around the world commemorates the sacrifices made by the labor movement, and more specifically the deaths from the Haymarket riot.
For those of you who hate labor unions, it’s important to remember that things that benefit us all, like the 40 hour work week, minimum wage, social security and child labor laws, all came about because of people fighting, and sometimes dying, for those laws and rights that we now enjoy. We must never forget and we must not let up until we’ve built an even stronger, more labor friendly country than the one we have now.
