An Ode to Emergency Services

Or not so much of an ode as a “well done, guys!” My neighbor two doors down had a bit of fire in his place today. It started, as near as we can guess, in the apartment under his, which has been foreclosed upon. Someone was squatting inside. We all thought she was gone, but apparently she came back in firey fashion today. Allegedly. Let me stress that this is all conjecture and no one knows for sure at this point.

The main point is that the Phoenix Fire Department showed up in quick time. In a matter of minutes, the hoses were out, the ladders had been climbed, and the fire that we could see from the outside was gone. Very quick, very efficient. The police showed up not long after and began asking questions to which I, sadly, was not able to provide many answers.

I spoke with the resident of the apartment on what is likely the worst day of his life, and it sounds like there’s smoke damage, but maybe no flames got inside. I told him to let me know if he needs anything. Hopefully all will be well for him, and I gather he has family nearby. Still, what a thing to happen only two days before Thanksgiving.

Phoenix's best, doing what they do.

One hopes to never need to call, but is reassured to note that if one does, the call will be answered.

Glad to hear no one was hurt.

Sucks for it to happen around Thanksgiving, but it obviously could have been a whole lot worse. Sounds like they got it under control before it really hit your neighbor’s apt.

Usually, if your home catches fire and you have to call the fire dept, you’ve already lost your home – either from the fire or the ensuing water damage.

    Enjoy your Thanksgiving, Chris.
